Historically, the Medicare hospice benefit was not a part of a Medicare Advantage program. It was carved, it’s “carved out.” And one thing I want to be clear about is that it is still carved out. What has changed is that there’s now a demonstration out of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, or CMMI, that allows for the testing of hospice being “carved in” to Medicare Advantage.
